RULES & ETIQUETTE

By joining and using this community, you agree that you have read and will follow these rules and guidelines. You also agree to reserve discussions, shared files and content to that best suited to the medium. This is a great medium with which to solicit the advice of your peers, benefit from their experience, and participate in an ongoing conversation. Questions should be directed to Member Services via the Contact Us link on this site. Technical questions should be directed to our community helpdesk.

Please take a moment to acquaint yourself with these important guidelines. If you have questions, please contact member services at membership@asist.org or call at (301) 495-0900.

THE RULES

Be Respectful — Discussions and comments are meant to stimulate conversations not create contention. Feel free to disagree with others, but be respectful of their opinions. Respond to the subject and not to the person. Insults, threats, or personal attacks will not be tolerated.

Be Yourself  — You are responsible for anything posted under your name.

Keep It Clean — All offensive, profane, vulgar, threatening, abusive, sexist, racist, other discriminatory, or derogatory comments or images are strictly prohibited. Such communications may be removed at the moderator's discretion. This caution is intended to maintain the professional decorum of these forums and reduce potential liability risks for participants and ASIS&T.

Think Before You Post — Be aware that information posted online through ASIS&T Community is available to anyone, do not post anything that you would not want the world to see or that you would not want anyone to know came from you. This includes critical comments you may make about people, companies, or products.

Forwarding — We know we cannot apply the Vegas rules - "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas", but forwarding messages outside the community is frowned upon and against the spirit of these forums.

No Spam — Spamming and trolling on ASIS&T Community will not be allowed, this includes using the forum email and private message (PM) system to spam other members. If you receive PM spam, please email it to
membership@asist.org.

Advertising — Do not advertise or promote any products, services, or events not affiliated with or officially sponsored by ASIS&T. This includes referrals and invites to join other message boards or communities, or any promotion to a website with intent to siphon traffic or make a profit. ASIS&T offers
advertising opportunities through other mediums, but not on the ASIS&T Community.

Calls for Proposals — Calls for proposals for meetings and publications other than those hosted/produced by ASIS&T may be shared in SIG community discussions but may not be shared on the ASIS&T Open Forum.

Surveys — The ASIS&T Community cannot be used to conduct surveys of the ASIS&T Membership. Please contact ASIS&T Headquarters if you are interested in surveying the ASIS&T membership.

No Posts About Fees Etc. — Do not discuss your fees, charges, amounts you are reimbursed by third party payors, salaries you pay your employees, prices for tools or services, or any other similar fee or price-related to information science matters. You should also avoid discussions that could be interpreted as planning or facilitating joint responses to or group boycotts of particular platforms or companies that sell products or services to you or your colleagues. Such discussions may implicate and/or violate federal and/or state antitrust laws.

No Posting of Copyrighted Material — Do not post any materials or photos that may have copyright protection or otherwise violate the rights of third parties without permission from the copyright holder. You may include links to such materials on other websites, as long as the materials are properly/legally posted on those websites. When in doubt, do not post or contact member services before posting.

DISCUSSION GROUP ETIQUETTE

Stay on Topic — To ensure the maximum benefit for all involved, only post information relevant to a group's forum. Keep subject titles as concise as possible to help aid fellow members' search.

Be Honest — Do not use the discussion boards to misrepresent yourself. Include a signature tag on all messages. Include your name, affiliation, location. If you include a profile picture, include one of your likeness and not one of your company's logo.

Keep it Useful — Use a meaningful title for your discussion posts to help other members. Do not post empty responses. Only post responses when you have something to contribute. If you want to thank someone, please use the “Reply to Sender” link.
